How to Properly Mow Your Lawn

lawn mowing services BraseltonIf you are looking for complete lawn care services, then our Enhanced Service Plan is for you. It provides the best balance between price and performance, and it includes a weekly mowing schedule to keep your lawn from becoming “overgrown.” As a professional lawn care company in Braselton, we adhere to the policy of cutting no more than 1/3 of the grass height during each service visit. If we feel that your lawn requires more frequent mowing, we will let you know.

Why Cut Only 1/3 of the Grass Each Week?

Cutting 1/3 of the grass height may seem not seem like a significant change, but it is the optimal method to keep your bermudagrass healthy. When you cut more than 1/3 of the height, you risk cutting below the leaf canopy. As bermudagrass is highly resilient, it will likely recover if this happens, but the resulting stand will be weak and more susceptible to scalping in the following seasons.

Calculating Proper Mowing Height

We will work with you to determine the grass length you are most comfortable with, but for this example, let’s say we’ll keep the grass at about 1.5 inches, meaning we will need to cut the grass when it reaches 2 inches in height. In a typical Georgia summer, bermudagrass can grow as rapidly as 0.33 inches in just a couple of days, but if we have another summer full of overcast days like last year, the grass won’t grow as quickly. So, we will take into consideration the growth rate of the bermudagrass this season and use it to determine how frequently your lawn needs to be cut.
